Re-usable fish boxes
The current utilization of re-usable fish boxes in some European countries was presented at a seminar facilitated by the Fishing Boat and System Engineering Association of Japan, Tokyo November 10. 2010.

Joined project meetings in Japan
MainSafeTraceJapan project manager Jostein Storøy from SINTEF Fisheries and aquaculture will attend at project meetings with the "Study on traceability in the mackerel supply chain" during week 45.
Status of the projects and interfaces between the projects will be discussed.

Presentation of Simulated recall
Results from the activity Simulated recall" was presented at a national pelagic industry seminar in Bergen in September.

ICT mapping of the Norwegian chain
A survey of the ICT systems in the Norwegian part of the mackerel chain was conducted during two days in September 2010.
The survey indicated that there are extensive use of manual re punching of information to aggregate traceability and food safety information.
A model of the current ICT architecture]was made. Plans for re engineering of the architecture are now being made and presented for the project consortium.

First workshop day in Trondheim
After an eventful weekend at the Norwegian coast, all scientists in the project gathered at the SINTEF SeaLab in Trondheim.

All scientist working on the MainSafeTraceJapan will gather for a workshop in Trondheim from 29th of August to 1st of September. Main topics for the workshop are:
- Status for national/regional traceability and food safety research in Japan, Norway, Nordic Countries and EU
- Status and results from MainSafeTraceJapan work packages and specific activities
- Discussions on improvement of research methods applied in traceability and food safety oriented projects

Good traceability of Norwegian mackerel sold in Japan
| The project has tried to trace mackerel products sold at Japanese food stores trough the processing history back to the origin. Almost all products could be traced back to a fishing boat. This indicates good procedures in both the Norwegian and the Japanese part of the chain | | |

Establishment of "Association of Food Chain Research Japan"
A new association focusing on food traceability is founded in Japan. The association is called “Association of Food Chain Research Japan” (AFCR Japan). Chief Researcher Jun SAKAI from FMRIC will be one of the persons working in the association. The chairman of AFCR wil be Dr. Matsuda of Chiba University.

Project meetings in Japan
Research director Jostein Storøy from SINTEF Fisheries and aquaculture is going to visit the Japanese project partners during week 12.

The temperatures in cold storage and transport between Norway and Japan are within the recomended range
RFID - temperature sensors used in the project indicates good controll of temperature during the transport of mackerel. Preliminary results are presented here.

Japanese version of traceability survey method
A traceability survey method, made by Petter Olsen on the basis of projects in Norway and EU, are now translated to Japanese.
This survey method will be used as a basis for investigation of traceability in the Japanese part of the mackerel chain from importer to store.

Funding of Japanese activity
FMRIC applied for funding of their activities in WP1 and WP4 and has now received funding from the Japanese research council.
This will strengthen the project work considerably and may lead to more activity in the Japanese part of the chain. Most of the activity will be made in February and March.
