Recording the relationship between batch, trade unit and logistic unit is an important traceability principle. If a company in a supply chain does not record relevant information or relevant information is not transmitted to the next company in the supply chain, it can be difficult to find the relationship between the units because the information is lost.

To see an example of how this can be done in practice, see transformations in the good traceability practice section.
